Local Author to Visit Piedmont Library
Join us as we welcome Deborah Law Vogelgesang Tuesday, November 15, at
noon at the Piedmont Public Library. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy while
Vogelgesang describes early Alabama history and our first state capital,
Cahawba.
*Once again, the social grandeur of Old Cahawba, its history and sudden demise as Alabama's capital will come to life.*
Vogelgesang's debut novel, *And The Rivers Rose,* is set in Cahawba during
the capital period of 1820-1825. While the book's central characters are
fictitious, several historical leaders of Alabama make cameo appearances. The novel focuses on Alabama's early settlers who toiled to tame forests into farmland and labored to build homes for their families. It was their perseverance and patriotism that created the state of Alabama.
Books will be available for purchasing and signing after thepresentation.
Deborah Vogelgesang, born in Piedmont to Florence and William Theodore Law, graduated from Piedmont High School in 1968. While a student at
Piedmont, she studied history under Marie Hendrix, Alice Mobbs, and Denna
Lang and English under Charlene Glover, Maxine Johnson and Dody Jennings. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in history from Judson College and a masters degree from Auburn University Montgomery in justice
and public safety. She is married to Colonel David Vogelgesang (U.S. Air
Force, ret.). She is also spokesperson for the Montgomery Area Hearing
Loss Support Group and along with her husband are an Interface Couple with
the Air War College at Maxwell AFB.
